HTC Desire HD can be installed with the latest version of Android OS and that even though there isn’t an official Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware for the mentioned Android smartphone. Because of that, we are talking of course about a custom ROM platform which can be flashed in order to update the HTC Desire HD to KitKat 4.4.2 software. The ROM is CM11, so you will be able to enjoy and run maybe the best custom firmware that is currently available on the Android platform. If I have aroused your attention, then don’t hesitate and check the guidelines from below.
HTC Desire HD is not the most powerful Android smartphone out there, but if you are not planning in buying a new device, then I can help you out in powering up the performances of your handset. How? Well, that’s quite easy as we will be checking on how to power your Desire HD and also how to update the same with Android 4.4.2 Custom ROM. All this is possible thanks to the CM11 firmware, which is a powerful ROM that is optimized and customized especially for your HTC Desire HD.
CM11 ROM comes with great features, apps and capabilities that cannot be found in the default version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. Now, these extra features can be used for improving the performances of your HTC Desire HD. Basically, with CM 11 installed, your Desire HD will run faster and better even though Android KitKat will be flashed above all. At the same time, you will be able to obtain more power, enjoy an improved battery life and a redesigned web browsing experience. CM11 is stable and has no bugs or issues; the firmware is smoothly running on the Desire HD, at least this is what the users who have already installed the update declared.
CM11, like any other custom ROM firmware, represents a free aftermarket distribution of Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. The software is developed by third party devs (we should thanks them for the present step by step guide) and has nothing to do with HTC or with Google. Furthermore, with CM 11 you will not receive the stock Android platform as a modified version of KitKat will be installed on your Desire HD. Also, the user interface has been modified and you will be able to personalize the looks of your phone with ease.
With CM 11 you will have access to the internal system of your HTC Desire HD. Because of that, you will be able to remove bloatware and in build programs, flash a custom kernel, overclock your Android device and lot more. In the end, of course, Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS will be running above all and all thanks to the CM11 platform. In order to obtain all that you need to follow and apply the present tutorial.
The guide can be easily completed, but be careful as if you mess things up, then you can even end up in bricking your Android smartphone. After all this is a manual update operation and not an official one. So, check all the guidelines from this tutorial and don’t perform things without consulting my indications. If you do that, then you have no reasons for being worried; everything will be fine.
The first thing to do is to prepare your smartphone for the update process that will shortly follow. Without preparing your device, you won’t be able to flash CM11 Android 4.4.2 KitKat custom ROM. Because of that we have the pre requisites list from below. Read and complete the tasks describe there before doing anything else – skip the steps which have been already completed.
- Root your HTC Desire HD. Gaining root access is essential because this is the first step to make when trying to update with a custom ROM. So, take your time and root your Android device.
- Be careful as gaining root access isn’t official. Also, when doing so the binary flash counter of your device will be increased which means the Desire HD warranty will be void.
- You can restore the warranty easily, but only by revoking root access and by relocking the bootloader. You can achieve that by downgrading your HTC Desire HD to stock Android firmware.
- After gaining root access you need to install a custom recovery image on your phone because the stock one can’t be used when dealing with CM 11 custom firmware.
- Use the latest version of CWM or TWRP recovery as the software can be flashed only by using one of the mentioned tools.
- Then, backup the data which is saved on the internal storage memory of your Android device. A wipe will be required and it is possible to lose all of your personal data, info and accounts along with your contacts, text messages, call logs, market apps and so on.
- Since CWM is already installed, you can use the same for making a Nandroid backup – do this for saving the current ROM (you can then restore the same without using a complex or complicated tutorial like the present one).
- A computer, your HTC Desire HD and the phone’s USB cable are being required.
- You shouldn’t start the proper update operation without previously deactivating the security tools that are installed on your computer – these programs might interfere with the installation procedure.
- Also, you shouldn’t go any further without charging your device; if your phone gets stuck in the middle of the update operation, it might get bricked – plug in the charger in case there is less than 60% power left.
- On your device go to “menu – settings – developer options” and enable the USB debugging option. Without doing so you will not be able to properly connect your phone with the computer.
This step by step guide is compatible only with the HTC Desire HD. This version of CM11 Android 4.4.2 will work only on the mentioned device. Using the steps from below on a different Android smartphone or tablet will probably brick your handset so try not to mess things up.
Update HTC Desire HD to Android 4.4.2 OS with CM11 Custom ROM Firmware
- From here download the CM11 firmware file.
- Also, from here download Google apps package – you need to flash it separately.
- Save these files on your computer – don’t unzip the files just place it on desktop.
- Good, now connect your Desire HD with your computer – use the USB cord for establishing the connection.
- Take the update and Google apps package from desktop and transfer the files on your phone’s SD card.
- Unplug the USB cable.
- And turn off your smartphone.
- Reboot your Android device in recovery mode.
- From recovery wipe the system and clear cache before flashing the ROM.
- So, select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvick cache”.
- Go back to main menu of recovery.
- This time select “install zip from SD card” followed by “choose zip from SD card”.
- Pick the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update file and install the same on your HTC Desire HD.
- Then do the same thing and flash Google Apps package on your phone.
- In the end, return to main menu of recovery and from there select “reboot system now”.
That was all for today; the best is that now Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS is running on your HTC Desire HD. So, you have successfully installed CM11 custom ROM firmware on your Android smartphone – congratulations. The HTC Desire HD (codenamed: 'HTC Ace') is an Androidsmartphone by HTC Corporation. It was unveiled at a press event in London hosted by HTC on September 15, 2010,[3] and was made available for sale in October in Europe and in January 2011 in Canada. The Desire was HTC's fourth flagship Android device[4] until the release of their new line of flagship model, the HTC Sensation.

Hardware[edit]
The smartphone has an aluminium unibody design with Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) and HTC Sense installed. Fdmr harischandra name ringtone. On the back, there are two plastic covers, one contains the battery, while the other contains the SIM card and the microSDHC card. It features a 4.3-inch gorilla glass WVGA TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera (can record 720p video) and support for HSPA/W-CDMA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE.[5]
It is the first phone to use the new 1 GHz MSM8255 Scorpion CPU. This second generation Snapdragon processor uses a low-power 45-nm process technology for higher integration and efficiency, and the Adreno 205 more than doubles the performance of the Adreno 200GPU. This allows for longer talk and standby times than the original HTC Desire even with a smaller capacity battery.[6]
The HTC Desire HD has 768 MB RAM and 1.5 GB of internal flash memory data storage. There is also a single microSDHC slot, which can accept a microSDHC/XC card with a capacity of up to 64 GB of data storage.
Software[edit]
The HTC Desire HD incorporates Dolby Mobile, Sound Retrieval System WOW Surround Sound, DLNA, Adobe Flash 10.2, and DivX/Xvid video playback support, however, not many audio codecs are supported and apps have to be downloaded in order to support more formats.
At launch, HTC unveiled the updated HTC Sense features, including a new web site that allows remote interaction with HTC Sense enabled handsets for backups, security features, and other handset interactions. For example, it can remotely lock and wipe the handset of all sensitive data, while the service also creates automatic backups of contacts, text messages, call history, customizations, etc. HTCSense.com will also send commands to the handset to set the ring volume to maximum volume even if it is on silent mode and give a location on a map.
The new HTC Sense brings some enhanced multimedia abilities giving users more options to create and share content (including new photo and video effects). It also includes location-based maps, which can be pre-loaded or cached and thus delivered without download delays or incurring mobile roaming charges. Also included is a new e-book store and a dedicated e-reader with annotation, search and translation abilities. It also provides a social networking hub, known as Friendstream which allows users to monitor their Facebook, Twitter, as well as other social networks all in one page.
Also, the new HTC Sense adds a new feature, Fastboot, which improves the HTC Desire HD's startup time, from more than 40 seconds to less than 5 seconds. Technically, the phone is placed in a low-power sleep mode when powered off and wakes up when started up. Because of this fact, if the battery is removed and reinserted, the phone takes about a minute to boot.
The HTC Desire HD has received a new software update in December 2010, the Android 2.2.1 version 1.72.405.3 which brings various improvements and some bug fixes.[7] As of January 2011 the 2.2.1 v 1.72.405.3 software update was pulled due to issues with the HTC Sense overlay.[8]

During May 2011 in Western Europe, an over the air update updated unlocked, unbranded Desire HDs to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread and HTC Sense 2.1.On June 12 in Australia, an over the air update was available for unbranded Desire HDs taking them to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 2.1.On July 2011, HTC announced via Facebook that it was testing Gingerbread for branded Desire HDs and HTC released the update at the end of July. With the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread Update, the Desire HD now has the ability to set Wi-Fi proxy settings which was not available previously with Android 2.2 Froyo and has Sense 2.1.
In September 2011 it was reported that HTC plan to update the Desire HD to Android version 2.3.5,[9] which would provide, for example, voice and video calling with Google Talk.
On December 16, 2011 in Europe, an over the air update updated unlocked, unbranded Desire HDs to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and HTC Sense 3.0.
On February 9, 2012, HTC announced in their Facebook page stating that Desire HDs would be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in late 2012.[10] This update was then cancelled on July 20, 2012, with HTC posting the following statement a week later to explain their position:
We’ve heard your feedback on our decision not to update the HTC Desire HD to Android 4.0. We completely understand that this is a controversial decision.
For more background, due to how storage on the HTC Desire HD is partitioned – and the larger size of Android 4.0 – it would require re-partitioning device storage and overwriting user data in order to install this update. While technically advanced users might find this solution acceptable, the majority of customers would not. We also considered ways to reduce the overall size of the software package, but this would impact features and functionality that customers are currently using. Even after installing the update, there were other technical limitations which we felt negatively impacted the user experience.
We believe an update should always improve the user experience and carefully evaluate each update based on this criteria. While we are very aware of the disappointment from this decision, we believe the impact to user experience was too great. We recognize this is a change from our previous statement and for that we’re truly sorry.[11]
As of September 2012, several community builds (ROMs) of ICS have been released for the device, such as Team Blackout's ICS Incredible (based on the official ICS build for the HTC's Incredible S),[12][13][14] AOSPx, and Ice Cold Sandwich.
As of October 2013, several community Android ROMs of Jelly Bean (versions 4.1, 4.2.2 and 4.3.1) have been released for the device, such as JellyTime[15] (compiled from CyanogenMod 10) and codefireX builds.[16]

Variants[edit]
There are multiple variants of the Desire HD in the USA. AT&T Mobility in the US has a variant of the HD called the HTC Inspire 4G, one of AT&T's first 4GHSPA+ devices. Verizon Wireless has a LTE-enabled variant, the HTC Thunderbolt, which has a slightly modified design which includes a front-facing camera.
I managed to download the prisoner dlc on the xbox marketplace without a code, but the option to dl the blood dragon armor dlc did not appear anywhere. Blood dragon armor dragon age origins. After buying it I learned that there are 2 free dlcs that come with every new copy of the game: the stone prisoner and the blood dragon armor. So I wanted to know: how do I get a code to download the dlc, since I did not buy a physical copy?.EDIT: I contacted EA support and they helped me get a code. Last week I bought the digital version of DAO on Xbox Live, as it was on sale. Problem solved.
Reception[edit]
The HTC Desire HD has received generally positive reviews from critics. CNET UK gave it a 4.5/5 and called the Desire HD the 'ultimate smartphone', claiming it is 'impressive and monumental'.[17]SlashGear praised it as a 'thinner, more pocket-friendly handset' than the HTC EVO 4G.[18] Engadget criticised some of the device's build quirks and battery life but gave the phone a score of 7/10.[19] TechRadar praised the device giving it 4.5/5 stars, describing it as '..the very latest in cool smartphone technology that actually works.'[20] Gizmodo praised it as 'A 720p-Shooting Android Behemoth' though they felt that it was a little too big for comfort.
Sales[edit]
In the UK, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone struggled to maintain enough stock to meet demand.[21]
Problems[edit]
The cover that is responsible for encasing the Micro SD card and SIM card is very prone to damage, however, it does not fully crack but it does slide off with ease.
